Biology 502: Citation Databases

Article Index and Abstract Databases

All of the databases on the Web of Knowledge platform (Biological Abstracts, Medline, and the Web of Science databases) have citation features.

Only the Web of Sciences database allows for searching for cited references -- Your search can start with a search of the Starting with an important article and discovering all of the subsequesn articles that have cited the initial article (i.e. included the article in their bibliography).

The other databases, Biological Abstracts and Medline provide information on the number of times an article is cited in the Web of Knowledge database as well as listing the bibliographies of the indexed articles.
