Interlibrary Loan: How to Request Books

This guide provides instructions on how to request books using Interlibrary Loan.

Requesting Books Through Interlibrary Loan

If a book is not available through the I-Share catalog, you can submit a request to the Interlibrary Loan Department.

It is important to remember that you cannot request text books through ILL.

There are two ways to submit ILL book requests.

The first is through My ILL found on the Brookens Library homepage.

To request a book, log into My ILL using your NetId and password and  click on the New Request>Book link. This will bring up a new window with a fill-in-the-blank form. The more information you are able to provide, the quicker the request can be processed. The correct and complete title is essential, and the edition is important if there is more than one edition. The author, publisher and ISBN are also very helpful. After filling in all the book information, click "Submit Request" and the request goes to the ILL department.

When the book arrives at Brookens Library, an email will be sent notifying you that you can pick the book up at the Main Desk with your I-Card.

If you are a distance learner, you should indicate that in the comments field so special arrangements can be made for delivery. An email will be sent explaining how your requested books will be sent.

The second way an ILL book request can be submitted is through the Library Search. If you are searching for books and you find a book you would like to request, you can simply click "Request Item". After logging in with your NetId and password the book information is automatically populated and you can submit your request.

Any books requested through My ILL will not show up on your My Library Account. If you would like to check the status of your request(s), you can log into My ILL or contact ILL staff (uisilloan@uis.edu or 217-206-6601.)
