ACC 531: Fraud Examination

An overview of accounting library resources.

Identifying a Topic

Selecting a good topic is not always easy. It must be focused enough to be interesting, but broad enough to find information. Brainstorm key concepts and issues about the topic you are interested in.

Here are a few ways to explore potential topics:

  • Explore Google Scholar to get a feel for if there is anything out there on your topic.
  • Browse online journal issues to see what is currently being researched.
  • Find what's trending on news sites and accounting trade association websites.

If you have a potential topic in mind, but you aren't sure if anything is written on the topic, try searching in Google Scholar first.

Google Scholar is a good initial place to search because it can search multiple UIS databases (but it doesn't search all of them!) and scholarly websites at once.

Browse current issues of accounting journals to get a feel for what is currently being researched. This is a great tactic if you have a general idea for your topic, but you aren't sure what direction to take your research.

Search Tip: Select a journal below, and select "Available Online" on the item webpage. Select "Available Online" and select one of the databases under "Full Text Availability." Select a year or issue you'd like to browse.
