Don't know where to look for data or statistics?
Think about your topic. Which national or international organization is likely to have collected and published information on that topic? Go to their website and check which datasets are available.
Look at the Methods section of a scholarly article to see what data they are using. Oftentimes, it will tell you what source or database they got their data from.
Oftentimes, the most recent statistics on a particular topic may be several years old, or they don't go as far back as you expected.
