On Tuesday, April 29th, the Friends of Brookens Library will co-sponsor the John Holtz Memorial Lecture “The History in Every Pour” featuring Tom Noonan, owner of Sangamo Brewing Company and Museum, founder of Breweriana Exchange, and a collector of beer cans and advertising.

The John Holtz Memorial Lecture honors the memory of the former UIS librarian, John Holtz, who passed away in 2004. John enjoyed a wide range of activities, including historical re-enactments featuring miniature war games, tennis, world travel, reading, writing short stories, and discovering craft beers, carefully preserving all the bottles and cans.

Tom Noonan, a local businessman and founder of Breweriana Exchange, spends his free time researching, pursuing, and collecting a part of Americana – beer cans and associated advertising. It’s a collecting passion that reaches thousands of people from the US and international countries. Collecting is a growing pursuit fueled by social media, online auctions, and a boom in craft brewing with new, eye-catching designs. Tom, a graduate of DePauw University and former local soccer coach, opened Sangamo Brewing Company in 2020 to share his extensive collection of cans, advertising, and more.
